Emmanuel Christian Academy 7th grade girls basketball team wins its first ever CYO championship!! Faced with a tough decision prior to this season on whether they would be cheerleading again or give basketball a shot. The Lady Rams decided to come together and learn the game of basketball from Coach Marcus Johnson.
Suffering a few early tough losses and continuing to work hard in practice the team started gel. Coach Johnson remained patient with his first year players and turned their focus on to defense and rebounding to carry them through their remaining games.
The Rams won their first two playoff games and faced a tough team in the championship. Lead by leading scorers Da’Veonna Singleton (8pts, 6reb, 4STL) and Ma’lya Kelker (5pts, 1asst, 4stl) along with stellar defensive efforts from Malaya Young (1pts, 5blks 8reb), Makenzie Johnson (2blk, 2stl, 5reb), TedKeya Campbell (5reb, 3stl) and Olivia Davis (2reb, 1stl) the Lady Rams won the hard fought game 14-11. Congrats ECA Lady Rams 7th grade girls on an amazing season.
