At our STEAM Camp, participants designed ecosystems within plastic bottles. These miniature ecosystems illustrated the interconnectedness of fish, water, and plant life. Following the activity, each family brought home their new pet fish.

It was a day filled with joy and creativity with the women of Emmanuel as Lisa Marshall guided us through the beautiful art of bending candles. The ladies were enthusiastic as they assisted one another in perfecting this intricate art project. After bending our candles we added bold touches with hot colored wax. The finished products were magnificent.

In the final week of the 2025 MY-STARS Enrichment Camp, students participated in a capstone project called “Green Spaces for Great Places,” where they designed safe, inclusive, and eco-friendly public spaces for their communities. Working in teams, they developed creative plans complete with visual designs and features like gardens, recycling areas, and multilingual signs.

They also created entrepreneurial strategies to support their projects, including fundraising ideas and community events. The challenge allowed campers to apply their summer learning—such as critical thinking and leadership—while demonstrating a strong commitment to civic engagement and positive community impact.

Four groups presented their green space proposals to our panel of judges and following the presentations, each group was rated, and an overall winner was determined, with the winning group receiving a $100 award per participant. The level of competition was exciting to witness.
                      Group Winner: Cool Kids Only
                      Individual Winner: Jaron Brown

Thank you to our Judges.
Dan Pais, Meg Pais, Julian Grimes and Verna Lee.

Today our STEAM CAMPERS embarked on an educational field trip to the Akron Zoo, where they encountered familiar animal friends and made some new ones. They gained valuable insight into the animals habitats and dietary requirements.

The children enjoyed riding their favorite animals on the carousel, and despite the rain, they enthusiastically explored the Dino Trek experience, featuring life-sized animatronic dinosaurs. The children were challenged to find the science, technology, engineering, art and math used throughout the zoo.
