The educational communities have been given many opportunities to make a difference in the lives of poor inner city children. Media attention on traditional urban public school students continues to report under performance by far too many students. U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) found that differences in student achievement are related to children’s background, such as poverty, parent’ education, race, and ethnicity.
