Emmanuel Christian Academy’s Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were recently selected to receive The Diocese of Cleveland Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Sportsmanship Award.  The Diocese of Cleveland CYO awards the Sportsmanship Awards to those teams who exemplify extraordinary good sportsmanship and Christian values. The Sportsmanship Award Ceremony will be held at the University of Akron on Saturday, February 21, prior to the Zips’ game against Miami (OH).

“We are very proud of our young men,” said Emmanuel Principal V. Rena Suber. “Our young men worked hard this year and proved that basketball is more than wins and losses; it’s about academic discipline, developing strong character and exhibiting Christian values.”

In the Catholic Youth Organization, the athletic competition gives each participant an opportunity to grow in character, ability and community while honoring oneself, as well as one’s family, teammates, officials and church. The CYO in Northeast Ohio is part of Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland. As such, the program promotes the values of Dignity of Person, Hope, Service and Justice to all those whom we come in contact with each day.
