EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION LEAD TEACHER

(in addition to general guidelines)

Job Summary:  To encourage the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of the children in our facilities. To teach and supervise young children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination incorporate learning opportunities using a child’s natural inclination to play. Create and implement activities and lesson plans that simultaneously engage and educate children.  In addition to teaching provide diverse basic care needs, including supplying proper nutrition, performing cleaning duties and dealing with behavioral issues. Also tasked with speaking with parents to discuss a child’s educational development. This person must be able to effectively supervise other staff assisting in the classroom, be sensitive to the needs of individual children and relate well to both the children and adults.

1.     Plan both long- and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice, and program philosophy. Complete lesson plans.

2.     Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child

3.     Coordinate field trips

4.     Complete annual assessment of children’s development

5.     Design and follow a full schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching material

6.     Balance your teaching between logical and social exercises

7.     Provide basic care and caregiving activities

8.     Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc.) to enhance the child’s abilities

9.     Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children

10.   Observe children’s interactions and promote the spirit of concord

11.   Identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action

12.   Collaborate with other colleagues

13.   Report progress of children to parents in annual reports and through parent-teacher conferences

14.   Maintain daily open communication with parents

15.   Maintain anecdotal records

16.   Maintain confidentiality

17.   Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy

18.   Maintain a safe and healthy environment

19.   Attend in service, courses to keep credentials updated. Meet all applicable licensing regulations

20.   Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers in the classroom

  1. Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by the Ohio Department of Education

Requirements

1.     Must have a Child Development Associate Credential, or an Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education

2.     Proven experience as a childcare teacher

3.     Excellent knowledge of child development and up-to-date education methods

4.     Methodical and creative

5.     Patience, flexibility, and love for children

6.     Strong communication and time management skills

EARLY EDUCATION ASSISTANT TEACHER primary responsibility is to Assist the lead teacher in performing her job description.

1.     Assist group supervisor with both long- and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice, and program philosophy.

2.     Provide input for bi-annual assessment of children’s development

3.     Maintain daily open communication with parents

4.     Keep accident reports

5.     Maintain anecdotal records

6.     Maintain confidentiality

7.     Report any suspect abuse to supervisor

8.     Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy

9.     Maintain a safe and healthy environment

10.   Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials

11.   Attend in service and staff meetings

12.   Keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance, and timesheets.

Requirements:

1.     A high school degree or equivalent generally is the minimum requirement to become a daycare teacher

2.     Some experience in childcare

3.     Some knowledge of child development and up-to-date education methods

4.     Methodical and creative

5.     Patience, flexibility, and love for children

6.     Strong communication and time management skills

7.     Meet all applicable licensing regulations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. Required to walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Most days will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 30F with wind chill to 90F.
